May is the month traditionally devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary, and nothing speaks to tradition like a May Crowning ceremony. This past Saturday we were happy to pay tribute to Mary, and just as our foundress, St. Jeanne Jugan, had a special love for her, she holds a special place in our hearts as well.
The day started with a Rosary that was led by our AJJ (Association Jeanne Jugan) members. Many voices joined in, with about 50 people participating. Following the Rosary, a Resident was chosen to be the May Queen and crown Mary with a garland of beautiful flowers.
Everyone enjoyed the day and especially enjoyed reminiscing about the May Crownings of their childhoods: dressing up in their Sunday best, bringing flowers to lay at the feet of Our Lady, and watching the lucky girl crown her.
