Green Beans Galore!
We got a delightful gift yesterday – hundreds of cans of green beans! As great as it was to get the food for our Residents, the day was made all the sweeter because of the story of the young boy who shared his Christmas with us.
When six-year-old Michael was filling out his Christmas list for Santa this past December, along with several toys he was hoping for, he asked for 500 cans of green beans (he really likes green beans!).
Imagine his surprise Christmas morning to find that Santa had delivered! There were enough cans of green beans to build a fort!
Along with all the beans was a letter from Santa, suggesting that Michael may want to share the food with others who were less fortunate. This sounded good to Michael – especially after figuring out with his mom that, eating one can per week, it would take him more than 10 years to eat them all. So he decided to share the green bean joy! We were the lucky recipients of his generosity, and we couldn’t be more grateful!
Michael’s mom worked out the details with our Sister Agnes, and she and Michael soon arrived with the family van loaded with cases of green beans. It was wonderful to get the beans – our residents love them too. It was even more wonderful, and truly heart-warming, to see such kindness and compassion in one so young. Thank you, Micheal, for sharing your gift with us!
