Nothing brightens someone’s day like a bouquet of fresh flowers – especially when it’s a surprise. That’s the philosophy of Cameron and Carolyn Elliott, two lovely people who not only believe it, but do something about it! They recently brought every Resident of the Jeanne Jugan Center a beautiful arrangement of flowers, and brightened a lot of days!
Gaby and Pat from the Activities department bring in a load of flower arrangements to give to the Residents.
Cameron and Carolyn, who worked as a florist for many years, know how much flowers can mean to someone who may be ill, or lonely, or going through a stressful time. They also know how many flowers are used for a one-time event and then thrown away with many good days left in them. So in 2016 they decided to start Unexpected Blooms and gather left-over flowers from events and wholesalers, and make them into beautiful arrangements to give out at hospice houses, senior centers… places people may enjoy a bit of sunshine. With the help of volunteers they have spread joy to many, many people in the Kansas City area. We are grateful that they chose our Residents as some of them!
