Cinco de Mayo con música!
Music and dancing for everyone!
On the first beautiful Saturday of the month, May 5, our Home celebrated Cinco de Mayo with guitar player and singers Juan and Gabriela Torres. Residents enjoyed the performance in the mall and played “HAT Potato” with sombreros during the intermission. After the music and dancing, there was a happy hour with Mexican themed snacks and drinks.
Fun fact: Cinco de Mayo is not “Mexican Independence Day” as many people think. It is a day to celebrate the culture and experiences of Americans of Mexican ancestry. It is similar to the way holidays like Saint Patrick’s Day, Oktoberfest, and the Chinese New Year are used to celebrate those of Irish, German, and Chinese ancestry.
“El Señor te bendiga y te guarde;
ilumine su rostro sobre ti y tenga misericordia de ti.
Vuelva a ti su rostro y te conceda la paz.”
“May The Lord bless you and keep you.
May the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you.
May the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.”
