Fish Rescue 911

  • October 4, 2012

Recently, Little Sisters of the Poor were the recipient of several Koi fish in need of emergency adoption. The original pond that held them gave way to structural damage leaving little water to support the 80+ fish that lived there. It all began when the Water Garden Society of Greater Kansas City received a phone call from a frantic homeowner asking for help in rescuing and re-homing their beloved Koi fish. A crew took four trucks with holding tanks out to the home and carefully caught each fish.

One of the Water Garden Society’s rescue team members is the father-in-law of our social worker, Tracy Giammatteo Warriner. He called Tracy and asked if we would like to adopt a few of the now homeless fish. After a pond assessment, it was determined that, yes, we could add a few more Koi fish to the mix. The transfer was made and all seem to have adapted quite nicely to their new habitat.
