Resident Artist is Artist-in-Residence
Creativity and caring know no age limit, and Resident Patricia Stenger is a perfect example of that by her impressive commitment to creating beautiful and warming crocheted hats. At the end of 2018, she created enough for each member of staff to have on Christmas plus at least 100 extra! She is always working on a new hat and giving them away or selling them in the Rose Bud Gift Shop at our Home.
Patricia started crocheting as a child. She made the ropes for her family’s home in the Missouri Boothill without the use of crochet hooks – she really did it by hand! Her favorite things to crochet are hats because they keep people warm. You can feel her love as she creates them because she says, “Jesus, Mary, and Joseph” every three stitches. The hats’ beautiful and vibrant colors, as well as her precise rows and stitches, make for wearable art that gets attention and serves a warming purpose.
When Patricia was notified that she’d be the first “Featured Artist” she said, “I am humbled. I am not used to being in the public eye,” and later said, “I’ve never even been in the paper!”
