The Little Sisters said a big “Thank You,” and “Happy Birthday” to one of our long time volunteers on July 11. Jack Regan, who has been volunteering with LSP since his mother came to live here 48 years ago, was surprised to find out that the party he came to attend last Saturday was for him. He thought he was coming to volunteer!
Asked why he’s volunteered here so long, Jack answers simply, “the Residents.” After his mother passed away, it was the other residents that kept him coming back. “When you fall in love with the old people you can’t turn your back. I just love the people here. Whatever you give to the residents you get back ten times. So you can’t thank me for volunteering, because I get more than I give,” he added.
Jack and his wife Carol are indeed part of the Little Sisters of the Poor’s family, and know sisters all over the country. In fact, they have stayed at 14 different Little Sisters homes from Baltimore, MD to San Pedro, CA and many places in between. We’re grateful for their dedication to us and our residents, and are happy to be able to repay a little of the joy Jack has brought to our home for so many years.
