We do St. Patrick’s right in Kansas City with two separate celebrations starting with a professional singer, songwriter, and music producer, Bob Reeder, The Irish Balladeer. Bob has been entertaining for over 40 years in Ireland and across the U.S., armed with his guitars, banjo, cittern, and Irish bagpipes. He and fellow musician, Kathy Murphy Revell on the bodhran (Irish drum) have been graciously volunteering their services at the Little Sisters of the Poor for 13 years and the Residents say they are one of their favorite entertainers. Bob loves to get the Residents, Sisters and all who attend involved in sing-along toasts and dancing to his Irish ballads and rebel songs. It’s an authentic Irish Hooley. We are forever grateful to them both.
On March 17, we end our St. Patrick’s celebrations with the Kenny Royal Big Band, another favorite entertainer at Little Sisters. The Residents love to dance to a mixture of Irish tunes and swing music, and lots of hats, beads, green leis, buttons, and prizes for the best-dressed Irish person are passed out. Fantastic fun for all!
