Christmas Fun and Friendship

  • January 9, 2012

The Red Hat Society began in 1997 when Sue Ellen Cooper gave one of her friends a red fedora and a copy of Jenny Joseph’s poem “Warning.” The opening lines of the poem read:

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me…

Celebrating the Christmas season and keeping with the spirit of the Red Hat Society, the Little Sisters of the Poor‘s Red Hatters came together adorning their favorite red hats for a special Christmas tea. A sampling of teas and pastries got the party started, which included a gift exchange and Christmas activities. The Red Hat Society is just one of many ways that our Residents say “Yes!” to life – at any age.
