Thursdays are always a lot of fun here at the Jeanne Jugan Center. They are our “baking and bowling” days.
Soon after breakfast is finished, residents gather in the auditorium for a morning of mixing, stirring, baking and socializing. Soon the hallways are filled with the lovely aroma of home baked cookies. The residents really enjoy baking the cookies. For many it brings back happy memories of cooking and baking for their families throughout the years. Of course, eating them is fun too!
After everyone has had their fill of cookies, they head over to the makeshift bowling alley. The sturdy rubber ball is just the right size and weight to roll easily, and there are plenty of volunteers nearby to re-set the pins as they are knocked down. Everyone cheers each bowler on, and the scorekeeper keeps track of the scores – making for a little friendly competition.
We are grateful for our wonderful volunteers who bring so much joy to our residents. What would we do without them!
