The Thanksgiving spirit was alive and well at the Jeanne Jugan Center this past Saturday. Normally we would do a turkey drop this time of year, but thanks to some generous donors we had enough turkeys for this year’s holiday dinners. We asked ourselves what else we could do to help make the season special for our Residents, and we all agreed that nice, big, hot breakfasts were something everyone enjoys, especially ones with plenty of bacon, or sausage (biscuits and gravy … yum!), or ham.
Our dietary manager mentioned that getting these items from our supplier was getting harder, and more expensive. So, we decided to go to our wonderful friends and supporters for help. And you did not disappoint!
There was a steady stream of cars all day Saturday at our Breakfast Meat Collection, dropping off packages of bacon and sausage, and even whole hams! We were so happy to get to greet the people and say hello, and were very touched by the generosity and kindness of everyone who contributed to our food drive. One of our apartment residents even came down and told Mother Margaret she saw all the people dropping off donations, and wanted to help too. Then she handed Mother a check. It was heartwarming.
We are truly grateful for everyone that helps support our mission of service to the elderly. We couldn’t do what we do without you! We wish you all a happy, healthy, and very, very, blessed Thanksgiving.
