Intern Ruthie at Jeanne Jugan Center

  • July 6, 2017

This summer we were blessed to have two interns work and live at our Home. Their time is coming to an end (how can 6 weeks go by so fast!?) and they will soon be moving on with the rest of their summer plans. Stay tuned, we will have an update on their stay here soon!

Earlier on, Ruthie, the sister of one of our interns, spent a week with us as well. Here’s what she had to say about her time at the Jeanne Jugan Center:

In the week that I stayed at the Jeanne Jugan Center with the Little Sisters, I witnessed immense joy, laughter, and love from the Sisters, volunteers, workers, and Residents.

Mother Teresa once said, “Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier.” The staff at the Jeanne Jugan Center have lived this quote fuller than anyone I have ever met. Their contagious smiles and positivity spread to everyone they encounter. Many times when I would be walking with a Resident, we would pass a sister or cook, and they would stop, grab the hand of the staff member and explain to me, “she just has such a kind heart.” I found such beauty in the loving relationships between staff members and the elderly.

During meals, I would walk to each table and chat with the Residents. Everyone I conversed with was content and in good spirits. However, one of the tables I visited truly stood out to me. They were feisty, rambunctious, and so full of warmth and joy. Whenever I sat at that table, I felt God’s presence so strongly. These Residents were a radiant light in my trip and showed such compassion and unwavering love.

When my trip finally came to a close, my heart ached. I had grown so much in the week I had stayed, and had become close friends with many of the Residents. The hardest part of my trip was having to go home and leave a glorious place so centered around our God.
